Santander technical glitch triggers delay to faster payments

Santander customers have taken to social media after experiencing issues with cash transfers and payments from their online banking accounts.

The bank said that there was a “technical issue” on Monday night which triggered delays to faster payments into the next morning.

Santander told a customer on X that their payment was queued and in the process of being made, asking them not to make the payment again.

Downdetector, a website that publishes company outages over a 24-hour period, saw a sharp increase in reports from customers at Santander on Tuesday morning.

Some customers said that money was leaving their account but not showing up on their online banking, while others had issues with using online card payments.

In a message on its mobile banking app, Santander told customers that its support teams were working hard to resolve the issue and apologised for the inconvenience.

Santander has previously experienced technical issues with its online banking and app.

In 2021, a technical glitch saw customers unable to access their online accounts, while there were also issues with in-store branches, cards, ATMs, and telephone banking.

In November last year, thousands of HSBC mobile banking users in the UK reported issues with the app.
